Our First Date

March 30, 1994, Scot and I went out on our first date. It is hard to believe that was 15 years ago today!

We were both in our sophomore year at a christian college in Florida. His friend, Vidor, was in the nursing program along with my friend, Connie. We saw each other a couple times hanging out around campus with our friends who knew each other. Scot wanted to ask me out. We had only seen each other around, but were not in the same classes or anything.

Since our friends knew each other, the guys came up with the idea to make it a double date. Scot and I hit it off instantly. We talked as if we had known each other forever.

He was sweet, funny, charming, and just so real. I remember when he dropped me off at the dorm, I knew he was someone special. I can honestly say, in my heart, I just knew he was THE one.

I am so glad that we went out on that first date...look where we are because of it! 15 years later - married for almost 13 years with 4 kids - what a beautiful dream come true! I am so thankful that I get to spend forever with that same sweet, charming, funny, loving, kind, really amazing guy!

Rainy Weekend

This has been a very rainy weekend where we live. Scot and I took advantage by doing some painting. We, (mainly) he, painted our bedroom. When everything is decorated and put back together, I will show you some pictures. I am really loving the color!

While painting, Scot and I had a lot of time to talk details about the new house! It was a lot of fun - as you can imagine!

For the past several months, every time I have seen something that I like, I save the pic in my house idea files. Lately, I have started narrowing down some of my choices. It was great to have pictures to show Scot what I was talking about so he could get the vision too.

As promised, I thought I would start sharing some of them with you. If you are interested in how the planning/designing stage is coming along, check out our home blog to see some ideas we have for the front door and kitchen.

Snuggle Time

Snuggle Time for Daddy and M doesn't happen often. She is a Momma's Girl!!!

Tonight, I snapped a few pictures of Scot with his little squirt. She actually wanted her daddy to snuggle and put her in bed! While he was holding her, she was showering him with lots of hugs and kisses!

Such sweet little moments - and Scot enjoyed every second of it!

Saturday Family Fun

Saturday was a perfect spring day! We spent the day at our favorite park. They had a special day planned full of activities and hands on things for the kids to do. The park is also a working farm and during the spring and fall seasons, they set aside a Saturday to show how the farmers would have planted and harvested crops during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

The kids really had fun doing chores the old fashioned way.

Making soap

Churning butter

M is getting so big. She wanted to do the corn all by herself!

Mr. Sid was demonstrating how they would sheer sheep "back in the day".

There were also other fun things out at the park for the kids to do: petting farm animals, pony rides, tractor displays and hay rides.

M looking cool in the firetruck.

Daddy and his boy relaxing on the hay ride.

Scot sampling some ham and fried cornbread!!! Oh so good!

We ran into lots of friends while there too. This is S with her friend N.

Of course, you cannot end the day at the park without ice cream for the General Store!

The perfect ending to a fantastic spring day!

Grill Out

Remember when I showed you these lights the kids got recently?

Well, my cousins, Josh and Carl found them pretty handy too! They were at our house grilling in the dark. There were no lights out where they were and they really needed some light. I remembered......

the kids head lamps. They actually worked pretty good.... at least until Scot got home and was able to set up the lights!

Brown Glassware

One thing I love is old dishes. I have many types of dishes that I collect. My favorite, as of late, has been the brown glassware.

You know how when someone knows you collect something, they keep their eyes open for you too. Well, look what my mom found at Goodwill for 50 cents!

My sister gave me this pitcher that she found at a yard sale. I love it! In fact, I use it every day. (I do have a thing with old pitchers too - but that is a whole other post.)

My friend's mom was going to sell these glasses at her garage sale. She told her mom that she knew someone that would love and appreciate them - and they gave them to me! Oh how I love them!

These glasses are more than just display items...we actually use them on occassion. I also use them to decorate with during the fall. Because they are so deep, I use them as flower vases. At other times, they are just fillers in my mantel tablescape.

So, what are some things that you collect! I would love to hear all about it!

The "Jump" Story

I was unloading the dishwasher the other day and remembered something that happened a couple of years ago.

S was 4 years old.
B was 3.
They were both climbing on top of the kitchen counters trying to get something out of their reach. S got down and I overheard her telling B, "Jump. Don't be afraid. God is with you even when you jump off the counter!"

Head Lights

You never can have too much light while eating supper.....

Scot picked up these head lights at a local tool store. He has one similar to these that he wears when he is working on the shed at night. The kids love his.

When we saw these on sale at the tool store for less than $4, we knew we needed to get one for each of them. Needless to say, they have been a BIG hit. We did not realize how much they would wear them.

Sitting in their beds reading. Playing trains. Riding their bikes. To school play practice.

But I had to draw the line today when they wanted to wear them to T*rg*t.

The Fort

My cousins, Billy and Josh, were out at the land helping Scot with the shed. Somehow the kids talked them into helping them do some building in their forts.

They built these cool look outs.

They are still having so much fun planning ways to make their forts even better! They are looking forward to another Saturday when their cousins can come back out and help them put some more cool ideas into reality!

Taking Shape

The shed/garage is really starting to take shape! It is very exciting to see the trusses go up!

Scot and some friends and family have been working out at the land last night and today. We are so greatful for their help!

Hopefully, the weather will hold out and they will be able to get a lot more trusses put up!

Cowboy Bathroom

I am having so much fun buying things on the cheap and storing them away for the new house!

Take a look at what I found at our local kids consignment sale.

Isn't this great fabric? The kids want to do a cowboy bathroom at the new house, so when I found this custom made curtains for $5 I had to have it.

You can read more about what I have found for this bathroom over at our home blog.

Joy of Homeschooling

The beauty of homeschooling is that we are not confined to the classroom. Who says we cannot do school at the patio table in the back yard?

Yes, that is a dirty face..she was digging in the dirt during one of her breaks!

Bargains!

I wanted to show you a couple of the many things that I got at our local kids consignment sale this past week. I was excited about some of the awesome deals I got this year! Here are just a couple of them.

I LOVE this dress for M. It is from Gy*b*ree. It was only $3.00! The picture does not do it justice...trust me.

I got these dress shirts for B..they were $2.00 each. I was so excited because he really needed some new button downs for church. He wore the blue one yesterday and looked so handsome! I think I will save the green one for Easter.

$5.00 skates for S.

E got these cute flip flops for $1.50 - never been worn! I saw them last summer at Ta*g*t for $12.99!!!

Maybe I will do a fashion show one day so you can see all the other cute little summer outfits that I got because I really did get a lot of great things for next to nothing!
